Mini Dual-Purpose Cross Cattle

There is nothing better than a selectively thought-out Dual-Purpose Cross. Using the foundation of a Mini Jersey and combing with a solid breed for beef, a miniature dual-purpose cross can be extremely beneficial to small homestead. Crossing a Mini Jersey with a mini beef breed can be ideal to cross because of milking lines from the jersey and the beefiness of the chosen beef sire. We often cross a mini jersey with a mini highland or a mini hereford to create such a Dual-Purpose miniature cross. Each of these breeds are known in their own rights to be the best of the best. Not every homestead needs to produce 4+ gallons a day of milk. Either of these dual-purpose crosses can provide a wonderful family milk cow that can then be bred back to either a mini jersey bull or mini highland bull or mini hereford bull for the upcoming year depending on if the homestead needs more milk or meat.

Using our base of Registered Mini Jersey bulls, Registered Mini Herefords, and Mini Highland, Rocky Bottom Mini Farm is able to selectively choose to do a breeding for just such a Dual-Purpose Cross. These crosses allow the amazing milk production capabilities of the jersey with the superior quality of the meat from the hereford or highland. When choosing one of our dual-purpose crosses, the homesteader can then make a decision in their breeding each year to selectively choose to breed back to a mini jersey if their farm is in need a of dairy cow or choose to breed back to a mini hereford or mini highland if their farm needs meat for their family for the following year. Since we begin with purebred mini jerseys and purebred mini herefords, you have a true 50/50 cross. When you breed back your foundation cross, you then have a 75% Mini Jersey or a 75% Mini Hereford or Mini Highland which brings out the superior qualities of each breed.

Crossing this breed also gives a hardiness of health and vigor that is found in cross bred cattle. Once you have your Foundation Mini Dual-Purpose Cross on your farm, you are securing your family’s needs for many, many years to come on your Homestead. Should the homesteader so choose, you can work with IMCBR to register these wonderful bovines due to the fact that all of our animals are registered. This will allow the homesteader to continue to track lineage in these amazing animals and document how you cross them moving forward so you can continue to make informed decisions with your cattle.  We are extremely grateful to IMCBR for recognizing this unique blend of Homestead Cattle and thank them for working with us!

Our clients then know that they can come back to us year after year for their Bull Semen needs from our Bull program, so when the time comes, they can make a selection of Mini Highland or Mini Jersey semen straws to continue their line.
