Our Story
WE BOUGHT A FARM!
Waaaaait a second, isn’t that the title to some movie? Nope. That family bought something else entirely. We, however, bought a farm. Yep. You heard me.
A F-A-R-M farm. Complete with furry little animals and things that say cock-a-doodle-doooooo and oink and quack and all kinds of things. But hold the phone there a second, I’m getting ahead of myself. Let’s start back at the beginning. Back in 1979… wait, that’s too far back. Let’s try again. Okay, here we go…
Back in 1995, two high school sweethearts, Grant and Stacy, were destined for love and marriage… only they didn’t know it and he broke up with her because he didn’t like the smell of her lotion. (Bet you didn’t see that plot twist coming!) True story. Fast forward more than twenty years, after both had been married and divorced, he finally figured it out and asked her on a date again. Somehow this saint of a woman forgave him and agreed. And that’s where we begin again…
Grant & Stacy began dreaming from their very first date. They met at the Waffle House in Hampton, Georgia where he walked up and immediately wrapped his arms around her and kissed her right smack square on the mouth just to go ahead and get that part out of the way so she wouldn’t be nervous the rest of the night. Yep. He did that. And then they took a ride in his big ole jacked up pickup truck through the countryside and dreamed about owning land together and having a farm. It was the greatest first date either of them had ever been on. Why might you ask? I mean after all, where is the imagination in that one - Waffle House and a ride in a pickup truck? Because it meant they had found each other again. You see, Stacy loves riding around old dirt roads listening to classic country music because that’s her heart strings and something she used to do with her daddy. And Grant figured out he’d found not only a girl, but a woman he could truly share his dreams with. Someone with whom he was equally yoked. Someone to share each other’s faith and love and passion and all the things that make roots. And I don’t mean just any kind of roots, but the ones that go deep and mean something. The kind that when the wind blows hard, the mighty oak still stands. Five short months later they got married (that must have been some first kiss!). And from that point they began making decisions and building dreams. Decisions and dreams that would take them from Georgia and the small town where they both grew up, to rural Missouri and the greatest adventure of their life.
They bought a farm.
Honey, I shrunk the… nope… wrong movie again.
Technically, they bought a 75 acre farm that hadn’t been operating as a farm in quite some time. This meant Grant had some work cut out for him but that was ok. If you know them, Stacy thinks Grant can do anything (and he just about can) and he began working to make their dreams come true. Only, they didn’t realize at the time that a “mini” farm was the dream. It all started with Loretta. Loretta was a standard jersey cow, and she was enormous! This was somewhat intimidating for that small town girl, and she thought, “there has to be a better way.” Turns out there was! Who knew mini cattle existed! After finding out about these wonderful mini moos, Stacy started researching and comparing notes with Grant. So, the dream was still the same but tweaked slightly to include minis instead of full-size standard cattle. Hence, the birth of Rocky Bottom Mini Farm. We would be remiss if we didn’t stop and say that every step of this journey has been a walk of faith. God has directed our path, and we pray for guidance and wisdom on a daily basis. The biggest phrase we have repeated through the entire process is, “I have faith.”
That couldn’t be more than true.
“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord.
